The publication accompanying the “Fluorescent Chrysanthemum Remembered” exhibition at CCA LAZNIA 1, commemorates the exhibition of experimental Japanese Art at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London in 1968.
The new art in Japan grew out of the experiments of the 1950s of Jikken Kobo, a group of fifteen artists, composers, choreographers and poets. “Fluorescent Chrysanthemum Remembered” celebrates two artists who made a significant contribution to the original exhibition at ICA, Kohei Sugiura and Katsuhiro Yamaguchi. The original exhibition designed by Kohei Sugiura was held at the ICA in 1968 in a gallery which measured 51 × 11 metres. The present historical exhibition at Laznia 1 was staged in a gallery of 20 × 10 metres.
The original catalogue of the London exhibition printed on the reverse of two folded posters is reproduced here in facsimile and is a part of the new catalogue.
